My top 5 at-home workouts of all time
I’ve been an at-home exerciser for years. Working out in my basement is not glamorous, but the commute is short, my workout gear doesn’t have to match (or even be in style), and I can deal with any emergency my kids throw at me if needed.
Over the years, I’ve gathered a fair amount of equipment, like this elliptical similar to this one, below. It is only $199 and can fit easily in a corner. I also own this Sunny Health & Fitness stationary bike. It’s quiet and sturdy - and surprisingly affordable!
Here are my favorite exercise videos of all time.
Breathless Body 3: HIIT it Big by Amy Dixon. I love Amy Dixon! She’s positive but not too perky and has a nice voice. She’s in great shape but not weirdly skinny. And her workouts are fun (or as fun as a workout can be).
Double Down with Amy Dixon and Paul Katami. Did I mention that I love Amy Dixon? This video combines cardio and strength with Amy and Paul taking turns leading two minute segments. Their banter is fun and the workout flies by.
Get Ripped! Slim and Lean by Jari Love. This was the first video of Jari’s that I ever bought. It’s a weight lifting video with segments by body parts to a music track. Because it’s from 2006, the participants’ wardrobes might seem a little dated, but the workout holds up. I especially like that it’s easy to skip chapters if I’m trying to focus on certain body parts or am dealing with a time crunch and just want to get something done.
Bob Harper: Inside Out Method - Cardio Conditioning. Make no mistake, this workout is HARD. It’s an hour long, but I’ve often cut it off at the 45 minute mark and still felt like a got a really great total body workout.
Body by Simone - The signature classes by Simone De La Rue. I have to admit I discovered Simone De La Rue by watching Revenge Body with Khloe Kardashian. (Believe it or not, they were good stories and I loved watching the transformations!) Simone’s workouts looked so fun, I ordered the DVD. These are cardio-heavy workouts, and they are tough! You’ll feel like you really accomplished something when you can get all the reps in.
If you’ve never exercised at home, I seriously encourage you to give it a try! It’s a great way to work towards greater work-life balance and to keep yourself healthy. You are your most important employee - take care of yourself so you can focus on work and make your dreams come true.
